dou·la /ˈdo͞olə/ noun. A woman, typically without formal obstetric training, who is employed to provide guidance and support to a pregnant woman during labor.
A birth doula helps mom before and during the birth of baby. They are present during the birth and offer comfort through assistance with breathing and massage, emotional support, information, help with communication between parents and delivery staff, support for partners. Before birth they may help with creating a birth plan and educating parents on what to expect. After birth they will help parents by giving feeding support. Expectant Mothers and their Partners
Doula services are available to expectant mothers and their partners and most enroll during the third trimester of pregnancy. The Doula Program reaches out to young mothers and fathers who would like support services.
